45th Tier

45th Tier is the collaboration of London-born vocalist and songwriter Darius Cole and Rotterdam-based producer Malachi Venn. The two first met during an after-hours session in a basement studio above a closed furniture warehouse, where an unfinished Rhodes progression and a distorted bass loop kept playing long after everyone else had left. What began as a single improvised recording slowly developed into a shared language built around restraint, physical rhythm and the fragile moments when a club track feels close to falling apart. Cole’s low, unpolished vocal delivery gives the duo its human center, while Venn shapes the surrounding space with detuned synthesizers, chopped organ phrases, live percussion and heavily worn tape processing. Rather than chasing clean electronic production, 45th Tier deliberately leaves small imperfections in their recordings: uneven conga hits, overloaded spring reverbs, breaths between lines and drum fills that briefly pull against the grid. Their music sits somewhere between deep house, broken soul and the intimate final hour of an underground dance floor. Their debut single, “Rhythm of Us,” is built around a relationship that can no longer be explained through conversation but still survives through movement. A restless bassline, loose percussion and submerged guitar fragments circle Cole’s voice as the track repeatedly approaches collapse without ever fully breaking. The song introduces 45th Tier as a duo less interested in perfection than tension: two distinct musicians meeting inside the same pulse, holding it together for as long as they can.
